I Am Now A KMJ Student! =)

Alright. I know it's a long time since I came here and update my blog. From this post, and hopefully many more posts in the future, I am goingto jot down my memories and experiences here in KMJ. In addition to that, hopefully, future KMJ students can get a better view of the life as a student here. ^^

I had never been to Johor before. And yet, now I am "forced" to stay here for one year (actually its about 10 months only). This is my first time staying away from home for such a long time. Yup, now I am a MATRICULATION student!=]

Last month at 27th May, I registered at Kolej Matrikulasi Johor. My first impression when I saw this place was: Wow! This is a BIG college. Before this, my school was quite small. I can get to anywhere in less than 3 minutes. Now, the place is so big that it takes 10 minutes walking from the dormitory to class at normal walking pace. Gosh. I admit, the first two weeks here I keep getting lost. Lol. The layout of the college is like an oval, and there was once i got trapped in the tutorial blocks where I turned round and round trying to get out of there. @.@

Talking about dormitories, I got what I wished for. Yay. I was placed at the 4th floor, the highest floor. I hoped for that floor as I heard the washrooms will be cleaner. However, it is really tiring to walk up so many floors every time I want to get to anywhere. What's more, my block is the furthest and the last one in the row- Al-Khawarizmi. Lol, one funny thing- I never imagined that I will write Arabic names in my blog. Anyway, though its quite close to the tutorial blocks, it is still located far away from the center of the college. This means that I have to walk quite far to go to the library, mini mart and the Ko-op.

I have three room mates, and they are all Malays. I'm not discriminating or what. It's just that I had never really got the chance to mix around with friends from other races. Even if I get the chance, they can speak Chinese. Now, I got to learn and try to adapt and befriend them. Well, turns out that they are really nice people! =]

As for the facilities here, I can say that it is really complete (ok, almost) and I heard that KMJ is the matriculation college with the best facilities in the whole country. Cheers! There's a track for running and a really big field. There are also courts for badminton, squash, basketball, volleyball and tennis. Haha, I don't really know what else are there as I did not really go and explore that. Maybe sometime later? Oh ya, there's also a gym. Too bad it's only for boys and KAKOM athletes. By the way in case you get curious, KAKOM is a sport event that involves all matriculation colleges in Malaysia.

Classes here are mainly divided into three types. There are lectures, tutorials and practical. I am a science student so the practicals are experiments conducted in laboratories. Talking about laboratories, KMJ has lots of laboratories. On average, there are around 10 laboratories each for Biology, Chemistry and Physics. There are lots of lecturers here too. For one subject, there can be around 50 to 60 lecturers if I'm not mistaken. It's wonderful right? You can just find any lecturer to teach you anything you don't understand. You don't have to be limited to ask one lecturer only. I think this is really great.

As for tutorials, the students here are divided into classes, called practicums. We will go to tutorials together where we will have a teacher teaching us how to answer questions and do exercises concerning the topics covered in the lectures. This is studying together in a small group whereas in lectures, we study in a large group in lecture halls. I am glad to say that I had great classmates! (or do you call practicum-mates? Just kidding~ ) There are 22 students in my class with three Chinese, three Indians and Malays stand a number of... You do the maths. Anyway, there's a weird phenomena I realized in this college. The ratio of girls to boys is like 3:1. The difference in number is sooo obvious. Girls rock! Haha. =))

Okay, I had written a lot now. There are still many more that I had been dying to write here, since this is the first time I get the chance to use the Internet to log in to Blogger. I guess all others will have to wait for the next turn. So long, until then~ =]
